Built for better video sharing and management experience
- »Our prodcut has focus on how video get shared and managed under Community Server by Tellignet - great platform for building Social Networks. Upupo Media Server is application based on the standard Community Server Media application and is 100% compatible with Community Server 2008.5 (SP1).
- »The application includes all the same groups, galleries, posts and quotas but has additional video-specific functionality. What’s more, you can upgrade any existing Community Server based community to have full support for Flash (flv) video streaming and content management.
- For the starter we added 2 new themes: Upupodefault (site theme) and Upupodefaulthub (group theme) with new controls and features avaliable in Upupo Media Server.
Video transcoding and streaming
There are 2 options avalible for video streaming with Upupo Media server.
- »using local storage, all configureable, similar to standard storage avaliable with Community Server
- »using flash server Red5 (it's Open Source). This integration of Community Server platform and Red5 gives much more functionality, including Shared Objects, recording client video streams and live stream publishing.
The type of storage for your video could be selected during Upupo Media Server installation or later through Community Server config files.
For transcoding Upupo Media Server supports 50+ video formats with conversion to flv format with optimal quality/size.
Also extended media application model supports thumbnails generation, more states for video posts such as post conversion/processing/errors handling and additional video properties such as video duration.
Video feeds security and scalability through encoding proxy
For better video feeds protection as well as better scalability for video streaming Upupo Media Server was designed with few features which help to solve issues with:
- »Protection of video feeds from unauthorized flv streaming, better control over how video is being shared and viewed. This feature also gives simple static URLs for video and better video embed code handling.
- »Better scalability options due to player proxy component of Upupo Media Server. Different configurations can be defined for the streaming of the same video based on video streaming server location, what flash player should be shown, video quality, etc. The full list of parameters avalible for customization could be find in Upupo Media Server documentation.
Media Playlists
Anybody who ever managed Community Server powered site with lots of media files and galleries is aware about how hard is to select and show specific media posts to community users. But there is a common approach for this - PlayLists
We created playlists for Community Server with support for both Media and Upupo Media galleries. There are 2 types of PlayLists - for Groups and Users. Both types have same functionality, but different permissions model based on Group/Hub or User ownership.
Playlist usage is quite stright forward - browse any Media content and add media files to playlists or to Group playlists.
Extended flexibility for tuning page layout and content
Starting CS version 2008 CS provides ability to easily configure widgets to be displayed on each specific sidebar be it one for blogs, forums, groups or other. Upupo Media Server provide more flexibility by adding 3 more configurable sidebars so a user can configure widgets for top, bottom, left, and right page parts. Each of these 4 sidebars can be configured to display a number of widgets or even completely switched off as required.
This Upupo Media Server feature also allows to define not just 4, but as many as you want layouts and configure each of them with specific user permissions and restrictions per layout per widget (ContentFragment).
Upupo Media Server also provides separate Control Panel snap-ins to manage Video galleries, widgets, Upupo Media specific permissions as well as license management for our products.
